I was always interested in the social media aspect of libraries, and through creativity and hard work, I found myself in viral territory for making TikTok's for Fowlerville District Library.
We are known for our One-Star Review Guess Who series where a co-host and I read one-star reviews we find on the internet of popular books, and people guess what book it is. While this is definitely a fun game with a hashtag that has generated over 1 billion total views, I wanted to emphasize that you don't have to feel alone in disliking a book. Books can gain so much hype that a reader can feel underwhelmed once they read it and are often shamed for disliking it. I wanted to promote a space where people didn't need to feel shamed, and we can understand that there are different opinions from our own. Another ongoing series has been our book recommendations. It's been incredible to provide diverse and inclusive recs, including LGBTQIAP+ books, Black Authors, books to celebrate Deaf History Month, books featuring characters with a disability, and many, many more. Our mission has been to promote library services to our community as well as showing what library culture looks like. So often we have to fight against the stereotype Hollywood portrays libraries, and what better way than filming what it ACTUALLY is like to work and be in a library. |
The Fowlerville Library's TikTok account currently has over 109,000 followers and over 2.6 million likes!
